Turning Mum-of-3 end of October last year has been a bit of a whirlwind for me. Now I have heard vaguely about dust mite powders, sprays, fumers and so on but I never was interested because I was conscious of how they would probably have lots of harmful chemicals which will often do more harm than good. Start off with Bosisto’s Dust Mite Wash as a monthly treatment for your washable fabrics and bedding. You can either hand wash or machine wash (refer here for more detailed instructions) – basically, you have to soak the fabrics for an hour and then wash. Ingredients? In between the monthly soaks and washes, use their Allergen Laundry Liquid as a gentle, daily solution to keeping dust mites under control.

This laundry liquid is super concentrated (only a small capful is needed per small wash for top loaders or per medium wash for front loaders) and has lasted me a couple of months now with barely dip in the bottle. What do we do with common household items that can’t be easily chucked in the wash? Well, we spray ’em with the Bosisto’s Dust Mite Spray. Perfect for non-washable items, this very handy CFC-free propellant can be used on everyday items such as mattresses, carpets, rugs, toys, pillows, curtains and more. To be honest, it never occurred to me that there are many places where dust mites can thrive. This spray is, as with Bosisto’s range, free of harsh chemicals and pesticides and is safe for most fabrics. Use monthly for the best results: simply hold the can 20cm from the surface, spray thoroughly, leave for 1 or 2 hours and if you want to go the extra mile, vacuum all the sprayed areas afterwards. Ingredients? 100% pure Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil. This spray is probably my favourite – so easy to use and I definitely feel at ease spraying generously and not being paranoid about harmful chemicals.
