9 Easy Skin Care Tips To Improve Your Skin Today

(Last Updated On: December 14, 2018)

As a make up lover, I have always acknowledged the importance of healthy skin. Having healthy skin means a good, smooth canvas for make up to go on. And of course, you have the added bonus of looking amazing without make up! Most ladies who love make up are usually into skin care as well – not me unfortunately.

I do have to put in a good amount of effort not to be lazy with skin care. Today, I’m sharing these 9 really easy tips that anyone can implement to improve your skin today. If I can do it, so can anyone!

Here are 9 simple skin care tips you can start implementing to improve your skin today:

Understand Your Skin

This is really important and sets the foundation of good skin care. There are so many skin care products in the market and not every one will suit you. Knowing your skin type helps you to choose suitable products. Common skin care types are Normal, Dry, Oily, Combination.

Drink your water

Keeping up with your water intake will help keep your skin hydrated. Not only that, you will find that you feel healthier overall. Afterall, about 55% of the female body is made up of water.

Cleanse your skin regularly

Be sure to cleanse your skin at least 1-2 times every single day. This helps get rid of the dirt clogged in your pores. Especially if you live in the city, there’s significantly more pollutants and dust in the air that is unhealthy and harsh for your skin. Try to use lukewarm water when you cleanse and avoid water that is too hot or too cold as this tends to damage your skin further.

Keep your skin moist

Which also means, you might want to have a facial mist in your bag (my favourite thing!). When you allow your skin to get dry, that dryness can cause the outer layer of your skin to break or peel. This causes the rough appearance of the skin surface. Hardly refreshing or healthy looking. Use moisturisers or facial mists to make sure your skin is always hydrated and moist.

 Always Be Gentle!

Exfoliating our skin can be beneficial in terms of removing excess dirt that has been clogged up in the pores. However, be gentle and don’t overdo it. Don’t exfoliate too often and be sure to choose a gentle exfoliator. No rough scrubbing!

Chuck The Soap!

Never use soap on your face. If you do, chuck it out now. Soap washes away the natural protective barrier on your skin. I know there are many soaps now that claim to be gentler and better formulated but the fact is the “binders that hold a bar of soap together naturally have a higher pH than products that are formulated specifically for cleansing the face”. And this really dries out your face. Plus it doesn’t leave your skin feeling nice, hydrated and smooth after. Ditch the soap. There are so many good facial cleansers in the market today.

Use Sunscreen

I’m not sure I can preach about this one because I am terrible with this. We all know that we need sunscreen to protect our skin from harmful UV rays. If you’re lazy or fussy like me with sunscreen, use moisturisers that already have sunscreen in them. Besides protecting your skin from the sun, did you know sunscreen also helps to slow down premature aging and the development of wrinkles?

Make Sure You Have Enough Sleep

Lack of sleep makes us all cranky mummas. But back to the topic, lack of sleep can cause wrinkles. Yes, fur’ real. You read this study here: “Those who slept only 5 hours every night for a month had twice as many wrinkles and spots, compared to those who slept for 7 hours.” Obviously, this is more than just a skin care essential – this is good for your health too.

Stress Less

Easier said than done, I know. Stress brings about a whole lot of harmful effects on our bodies and this of course, includes our skin. Stress can cause your acne, eczema or rosacea to flare up. They even have a term for it: psychodermatology – yes it’s a thing.

If you want your skin to behave for you, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to chill a little, take a break, indulge in a nice bath, get a good sleep.

These easy skin care tips are really simple to get you started. Even for the laziest and fussiest, it’s really not difficult to implement these steps in your life today. Do you have any other easy skin care tips to add to the list?
