Every year, winter fills me with dread. There’s something about the cold that makes me want to hibernate under the warm blankets and add to that, my combination-dry skin with a history of eczema that starts getting flaky and sore. Luckily, I have found a few skin care go-tos to help me get through the winter season.
Here, I have 5 skin care picks that I have been reaching for this winter.
Soap & Glory Girligo Spray-On Body Moisturizing Mist
This body mist is a refreshing switch up from the usual body creams/moisturizers. No gluggy mess on your hands, trying to squeeze the right amount out or dipping fingers into pots. It’s a quick spray and go for this one. I find that it works best after a nice, warm shower when your skin absorbs the product best. While I wouldn’t call this the most moisturizing product around, it fares beyond my expectations for a mist. The mist itself is very lightweight yet creamy enough for its moisturizing effect to last a fair few hours. One of my favourite finds this year. Besides, it smells heavenly – I truly enjoy the beautiful blend of bergamot, peach, strawberry, jasmine, mandarin and musk that greets my senses. Totally my winter treat.
Boots Laboratories Optiva Nourishing Night Cream*
Not to be underestimated for its very simple, unassuming design, this Optiva Nourishing Night Cream really impressed from my first try. It uses Althaea officinalis extract with other moisturizing ingredients to nourish and hydrate. I enjoy its rich formula that really soothes my sore and dry winter-chapped skin right upon application. It works great overnight while I sleep and I always wake with nicely hydrated skin. It is also hypoallergenic, paraben-free and suits sensitive skin.
Urban Rituelle Hibiscus & Cranberry Hand Therapy*
There’s nothing I enjoy more than a sweetly scented, hydrating hand cream. This Urban Rituelle hand therapy uses Sweet Almond & Jojoba oils to soften and re-condition while Shea Butter and Vitamin E help to soothe and protect. I love the soft, sweet scent left behind even hours after application. I do find this more effective than most hand creams I have tried.
Boots Laboratories Optiva Skin Balancing Cleanser*
A good cleanser that does not strip the skin of its natural oils is very, very important to me. My dry-combination skin means that if I don’t pay attention to my cleansing process, I could end up with flaky skin. Hardly attractive! This cleanser is not your typical lather on and rinse off soapy cleanser, no. It has a very creamy, milky texture that feels extremely soothing and you’re only supposed to wipe the product away with a cotton pad. I use some toner on my cotton pad for the purpose. No dryness or tightness on the skin at all, all that is left behind is a freshly hydrated canvas ready for the next skincare step.
Botani Soothing Facial Mist
I have raved about this facial mist before and I will continue to. This is my second bottle and it is perfect for sensitive or dehydrated skin. The gentle scent of Rose and Chamomile is especially soothing and complements the gentle soothing and hydrating effect so well. Plus the nifty 50ml bottle means it’s great to pop in your bag for when the dry winter wind outdoor takes its toll on your skin. This is an absolutely favourite that I will continue to repurchase.

What are your personal skin care picks for winter?
The Soap & Glory spray looks lovely. I love scented moisturisers and it sounds like it’d smell delicious! Definitely something I can see myself buying xx
It is pretty amazing, Angela! I love it!
Oooh I’m keen to try that Botani facial mist! Always on the look out for another facial mist. My skin is getting to be a lot more sensitive as I grow older so this might be the next thing to try.
Hi Norlin. I love my facial mists and this is one I have really enjoyed enough to repurchase!
Hi Mandy, I get eczema during winter too! So annoying…. For me, I use Aveeno’s Eczema Therapy moisturizer and it truly stops the itching and fades the patches real quick. I have not tried most of these product so will look out for these brands when I next visit Oz. I’m surprised that there’s Soap & Glory – yay! – will stock up this Dec when we go over for Xmas.
Hi lovely! Yes there’s Soap & Glory here 🙂 Which part of Australia are you visiting?
Thanks for the small reviews! I like the sound of the Botani, might need to pick it up 😀 Haven’t really tried anything from this brand before and i like the thought of the very natural ingredients.
Hi May! Definitely give it a go, I think you’ll like it!
