Types of Baby Wipes:

What types of wipes should you consider? There are tons of options to choose from, so let’s get started.

Container Types

You’re most commonly going to find baby wipes in a plastic box with a flip lid. Grab them with one hand and buy refills when they run low. These types of wipes aren’t even that expensive! You may also find disposable containers too that you can continually replace, but the plastic is a little loud when you pull wipes out, making nighttime diaper changes a problem. This non-replaceable type may bunch up too.

Just make sure you don’t confuse the replacement packs for the disposable containers by mistake!

Then you’ve got travel packs in two types of containers. One is a rigid plastic box that opens a little so you can get to the wipes. These can be refilled easily with the same packs you use at home, and are extremely convenient since diaper bags, clutches, and quick-change stations have a ready spot for these packs.

The other type of travel container comes in a plastic bag with a sticker top. They store easy and are small, although that sticker doesn’t stay shut by the time you get to the end of the wipes.

Extra-Thick Wipes

Put more space between fingers and baby poo with extra-thick wipes. You may not save any money however, especially if you use these wipes just like you use normal ones. The feeling of thicker wipes may just be worth it though.

Specialty Wipes

A baby prone to diaper rash may benefit from wipes with built in rash cream or other soothing ingredients. Some companies may make wipes that break down easier in landfills, or that are made with natural or organic ingredients. They cost more, but if these aspects are important to you, it’s worth it.

Flushable Wipes

These types of wipes are usually for potty-trainers, but they can still be useful with hybrid diapers that have flushable inserts. Usually these wipes come in plastic flip-top boxes and may have refills too, just like normal baby wipes. Don’t flush too many wipes at one time and you’ll be fine.

Things to Consider Before Buying

Is it toxic?

You’ll be surprised to discover that lots of baby products are made with hazardous chemicals. Check if there’s a health risk by seeing if it results in chemical exposures. Diapers for instance don’t have lots of exposure, while baby bottles can. Baby products roducts like shampoos are usually fine. Keep an eye on products that continuously emit chemicals, like diaper pail deodorants.

Babies are vulnerable!

Your cutie faces lots of health risks compared to adults. This is because their major organ systems are still developing after birth and can’t get rid of toxins as effectively as we can. A toxin that doesn’t affect you just might harm their endocrine, immune, or nervous system.

Precautions

You’re right to be concerned about how possible chemicals are affecting your growing baby. Take a look at the regulations on baby products to be sure you know what you’re buying, and read the package or company website if you’re not sure.

Controversial Ingredients

Look for any ingredients that may cause concern with GoodGuide lists, and avoid any controversial ingredients. Fragrant products are specifically an issue because these can be used to conceal chemicals that cause allergies, hormonal disruptions, and neurotoxicity.

Specifically find companies that have products without phthalates of parabens that are linked to health concerns. You may not find all the ingredients since companies aren’t required to disclose that information, but try your best.

Packaging

Try for minimal packaging, or something that’s disposable. You’ll be using a lot of wipes, so it’s a good idea to be a little green while you’re at it.

Some Cool Uses of Baby Wipes (Just So You Know)

Lots of people randomly carry the best baby wipes without even having a baby! That’s because there are lots of other uses for them. You can shine your leather shoes or bag just as easily as you can wash mildly used wipes to use as dust rags.

Use baby wipes to blot up spills, clean up the gunk and dust on your keyboard, and get rid of your makeup. The list for baby wipes uses goes on and on. You can even use baby wipes for sunburns, as a rub to stop pet shedding, and as an eraser for deodorant marks on clothing! I don’t know about you, but I’d pick up an extra pack just for me!
