Best Burgundy Lipstick: Tips To Pull Off The Fall Look

(Last Updated On: July 19, 2018)

Burgundy is one of those lipstick shades that you can wear regardless of your skin tone. And it’s awesome because it helps you get that vampy look even when the darkest of your reds can’t. But choosing the best burgundy lipstick for your next night out can leave you in a bit of a pickle.

Tips on Wearing Dark Burgundy Lipsticks

  • Choose a shade depending on your skin’s undertone: While it looks great on most skin types, following this tip for other dark shades is optimal. To check your undertone, look at the veins on your wrist. Blue veins mean a cool undertone, which work well with red hues. Green veins mean you have a warm undertone which looks good with blue-based hues. A mixture of blue and green veins means that practically anything would look with you, lucky goose!

  • Matte or glossy finish: While no one’s stopping you from wearing any type of finish whenever you want, mattes are better for daytime while glossy finishes work better for nighttime looks.
  • The rest of your look: For wearing darker lip colors, it is better complimented with a simple overall look. Light makeup with natural shades would make your lip stand out. For a bolder statement on an evening out, pairing your dark lip color with strong eye makeup would also look dashing.

Applying Burgundy Lipstick

1. Exfoliate – because it is a dark shade, applying it on unexfoliated lips can result in an uneven look. Make sure to exfoliate your lips gently with a toothbrush before applying.

2. Put on some lip balm – to make sure that your lips remain moisturized while wearing your lipstick and that it goes on smoothly, put on some lip balm prior to the lipstick itself. Do this a few minutes prior to applying the lipstick in order to let it set and blot away the excess oils with a tissue before putting on your lipstick.

3. Apply lip liner – to avoid feathering or bleeding, make sure to line your lips with a lip liner of a similar shade.

4. Apply – you can do this straight from the tube, or with a lipstick brush for more precision. You can apply two coats for better coloring, but that depends on the pigmentation of your chosen product. Sometimes one coat is enough.

5. Blot the inside of your lips – do this by putting your finger into your mouth and pulling it out through your lips to avoid getting it on to your teeth.

6. Set with powder – this is an optional step, but it sets better when you get a layer of tissue, press it on top of your lips and then using a makeup brush to apply a layer of powder over it. Afterwards, you should apply another coat for a more budge-proof application.

Conclusion

What’s stopping you from getting that dark lippie now? With these tips and reviews, you can confidently rock the best burgundy lipstick for the next girls’ day out. Just don’t forget to exfoliate, moisturize, and set it for a longer lasting lipstick that look great on your lips.
