Best Essential Oils For Rosacea: The Ultimate Guide

(Last Updated On: July 3, 2018)

Rosacea may not be one of the most well-known issues out there, but that doesn’t mean it’s not bothersome. Dealing with those red bumps on your skin and the accompanying redness and itchiness is no walk in the park. When I was looking around for help though, I found that the best essential oil for rosacea can really do the trick.

How to Use Essential Oils for Relief from Rosacea

Essential oils luckily do have some great healing properties when it comes to rosacea- if you know how to apply them right. Pick any of the great oil possibilities and use these techniques to help them work.

Inhalation

Put 2-4 drops of oil onto a cotton swab and inhale. Don’t let your nose touch it, but tuck the swab into your shirt to keep up the aroma.

Massage

A full body massage is relaxing, and it helps with detoxification too. Mix 6-12 drops of essential oil to 1 oz of a scent-free lotion. Use this for a body massage.

Body Product

You can also add 3-6 drops of essential oils to a scent-free moisturizer just on your own skin. It works especially well after a shower.

Room Spritzer

This larger recipe includes mixing 20-25 drops of your oil with distilled water. Just shake it before use, keep it out of your eyes, and spray.

Symptoms & Causes of Rosacea

So you’ve got rosacea, but how did you get it, and how do you know that’s what you have?

Symptoms

There’s a lot of variation between individuals when it comes to rosacea, but you should always see at least one of these primary signs:

  • Lots of people have a history of frequent blushing or flushing, with facial redness that comes and goes
  • Persistent redness is the most common sign you’ll see, like a permanent sunburn or blush
  • Small, red, acne-like bumps usually develop, but you’ll know it’s rosacea thanks to the burning and stinging
  • Blood vessels often become visible on the skin within time

Keep in mind that many people also experience secondary symptoms as well, like:

  • Irritated, watery, or bloodshot eyes, along with red and swollen eyelids
  • Burning, stinging, itching, or tightening on the face
  • Appearance of rough and dry skin
  • Raised red patches (plaques)
  • Possible raised skin on the nose (more likely in men)
  • Facial swelling
  • Bumps on other portions of the body

Causes

Unfortunately, the causes for rosacea are actually unknown, just like there’s no real cure. It can affect all portions of the population, especially those of you with fair skin that tend to flush or blush easily. For the most part it’s diagnosed more in women with men experiencing more severe symptoms.

Some Subtypes of Rosacea

There are actually four subtypes of rosacea that you’ve got to be on the lookout for. The first type involves a lot of flushing and persistent redness, along with visible blood vessels.

The second type will also have redness, but more transient bumps and pimples too.

The third type involves that skin thickening and possible enlargement of the nose.

Finally, the fourth type usually has to do with eye issues like dry eye, tearing and burning, swollen eyelids. Also, possible vision loss if it gets bad enough.

Conclusion

There are all types of oils you can try, and that you probably have, when it comes to dealing with your rosacea. Not only does it mess up the skin on your face, but it itches and burns too! Any of these essential oils are a great pick when it comes to cleaning up those annoying red bumps.
