CeraVe’s Daily Moisturizing lotion is a light facial moisturizer cream, perfect for rosacea sufferers. It is fragrance and oil free, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, non-irritating and ideal for normal to dry skin. The lightness of the cream does not detract from the cream’s ability to provide 24-hour hydration because they use MultiVesicular Emulsion Technology (MVE) which slowly releases the moisturizing ingredients throughout the day, layer by layer.

This is really effective in ensuring soft skin all day long. CeraVe has also received more Seal of Acceptance awards from the National Eczema Association than any other brand, an endorsement of their suitability for sensitive skin.

Ceramide Usage

To elaborate, ceramides make up 50% of the protective layer of the skin and are oils that are naturally found in skin. They are essential in supporting the skin barrier and retaining moisture. The skin barrier is weakened when ceramide levels are low. This happens because moisture ends up escaping from the skin. Hence, CeraVe’s moisturizing lotion was formulated to increase your skin’s ability to attract, hold and distribute moisture by penetrating deeply to restore essential oils.

Great Ingredients

CeraVe’s formula uses some great ingredients that make it a great product.

Caprylic Triglyceride

It is also known as a Medium-Chain Tiglyceride (MCT) oil that softens the skin as it sinks in quickly. It works like coconut oil but does not contain the lauric fatty acid component. This particular ingredient is also completely suitable for skin conditions like rosacea, eczema and psoriasis because it prevents any aggravations of these conditions. A major culprit of these skin conditions is a fungus called malassezia which can become pathogenic for susceptible individuals.

The malassezia yeast that causes these skin conditions feed on fatty acids with carbon chain lengths, which is usually present in most moisturizers and oils, making them problematic for individuals with these conditions. However, Caprylic Triglyceride does not trigger these problems like other ingredients might, which make them compatible with users with rosacea, eczema and psoriasis.

Glycerin

This ingredient attracts water from the atmosphere which binds to the skin. This ingredient provides hydration for the skin and keeps it moist.

Cholesterol

The product also contains cholesterol which makes up 25% of the skin barrier. Cholesterol functions like ceramides by maintaining skin health through its emollient and water-binding abilities.

Hyaluronic Acid

This ingredient functions similarly to glycerin since it attracts water as well. The only difference is that hyaluronic acid is much more powerful and can hold up to 1000 times of its water weight. This ingredient draws water from the environment and the deeper layers of the skin to create a plumping effect that reduces fine lines and wrinkles. It can also speed up wound recovery.

Dimethicone

This ingredient is a silicone-based skin protectant that coats the skin with a thin barrier and sinks into dry crevices to provide maximum protection. You can find this inside many other moisturizers because of its high tolerability. It is important to note that this ingredient is suitable for those with sensitive acne-prone skin.

  • Not recommended if you do not like runny lotion

Ultimately, CeraVe is a great moisturizer for all skin types. Particularly, it is highly compatible with sensitive skin and users with skin conditions. CeraVe’s formula creates a moisturizer that works well as it repairs the skin while hydrating it.

The feel of the product is also good since it very light, spreads easily and dries matte. All these aspects make this moisturizer great for use at any time of the day or night.
