CosMedix Serum 16 & Pure Enzymes Mask Review

(Last Updated On: July 2, 2019)

As I have mentioned on my Instagram recently, I have been focusing on my skin care regime more than I used to. I have come round to the logic that better skin will make for a better canvas for make up and also, it’s great to have good skin sans makeup.

Plus, not to mention, even though I have had generally problem-free skin… I know I won’t get away with it for too long if I take it for granted!

Today I’m reviewing the Cosmedix Serum 16 and CosMedix Pure Enzymes Exfoliating Mask that I recently discovered.

For those who are newly introduced to the brand, CosMedix does not use “preservatives, biological, artificial colours or synthetic fragrances”. I was very happy to read about that for one as I have been slowly leaning towards more natural, organic beauty products. Afterall, our skin is our biggest organ and I want to pay more attention to what I’m applying on it. Makes much sense, doesn’t it?

CosMedix Serum 16 Review

cosmedix serum 16

The CosMedix Serum 16 is a Rapid Renewal Complex featuring LG-Retinex (for Anti-Aging). This Serum 16 is clinically proven to “visibly diminish the look of lines and wrinkles”, “brighten and balance the skin’s appearance”, “boost hydration” and causes “less irritation than traditional retinol products”. CosMedix also calls this product “the closest thing to prescription-strength age defiance without a prescription”.

At first, it all sounded very scientific and even a little intimidating. I initially thought it might perhaps be a little of an overkill for me as I do not have a significant problem with lines and wrinkles as yet (though I do have fine lines under my eyes). I was also worried that it would cause my skin to break out which has happened before with creams/products that were too rich. Luckily, that never happened with this Serum 16. I did like the improvement I saw with regards to brightening, balancing skin appearance and hydration. Every morning after the nights I have applied this, I wake up with my skin feeling really smooth and supple. Win.

There is no strong fragrance with this and the consistency is creamy and thick. It doesn’t leave any greasiness behind too.

As always, be sure to follow the instructions. With this Serum 16, the user is advised to slowly introduce the product to the skin. “Apply a pea-sized amount to clean skin as tolerated every 1 – 3 nights, working up to nightly use.” You then have a choice to follow up with moisturizer or not for extra hydration (I do. Never too much hydration for me!)

CosMedix Pure Enzymes Exfoliating Mask

The CosMedix Pure Enzymes Exfoliating Mask contains cranberry enzymes and lactic acid to “tenderly scrub away facial impurities and decongest blocked pores”. This Mask smells beautiful; it smells of cranberry (unsurprisingly…) and comes in a 30ml air-less pump bottle which I like as it means you can really get every drop out of the bottle.

Benefits:

Brighter and more youthful appearance
Radiant & glowing complexion
Gentle exfoliation

Conditions:

Oily / blemish prone skin
Coarse pores
Dry / dehydrated skin
Sun damage & hyper pigmentation
Irritation / sensitivity
Excellent post peel or resurfacing procedures
Can be used on the face, neck and décolletage

The CosMedix Pure Enzymes Exfoliating Mask claims to aid “brighter and more youthful appearance” as well as “radiant and glowing complexion”. After using it once a week (as per instruction on box packaging), I can attest to its effectiveness.

The consistency of this mask is just right; not too gluggy yet not too watery. Only a small pea-sized amount is need to spread evenly over my face.

The most obvious benefit I have found is with my pores and blackheads on my nose. This mask has really made my pores less obvious, contributing to an overall radiant and smoother appearance of my skin. The blackheads on my nose have also reduced due to the effective exfoliating properties.

When using this Mask, be sure to follow the instructions. This Sunburn Alert is printed on the label: “This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.”

Overall, I think you do get what you pay for with these CosMedix products. They are probably not in the price range for everyone but if you are looking for high range professional skin care that delivers, I think CosMedix is certainly worth a go. Also, you really don’t need a big amount in each go so I am sure each product will last a good while.
