On days when I have any make up on, you can bet that eye make up is a definite step for me. I have been told a couple of times that the width of my eyes are quite short (yes, even by Asian standards, and no it wasn’t a racist remark, I was told by a couple of make up artists on different occasions who were discussing make up for my features) so I always like to have eye make up on to accentuate my eyes. I’ve tried my fair share of different eye make up removers but today, I’m reviewing the Dermalogica Soothing Eye Make Up Remover because I found its gel formula quite interesting.
This make up remover is completely oil-free, alcohol-free and water-soluble. It claims to “instantly dissolve all traces of eye and lip make-up including stubborn mascara” and contains Silk Amino Acids (for strengthening lashes and conditioning eye lid area). It is also supposed to be ideal for contact lens wearers, something I’m unable to comment about since I don’t use contact lenses.
What I loved about it:
Many eye make up removers I have tried always seem to leave a greasy residue that I absolutely detest. This Dermalogica one is not greasy at all. As for its claims of being soothing and conditioning, I can definitely agree. The gel is very mild and gentle on my eye area. After rinsing, my eye area feels very clean with no residue and no feelings or tightness or dryness.
What I didn’t dig so much:
When it comes to eye make up removers, the top question is obviously how efficient it is in removing eye shadows, mascaras and the like. When it comes to this Dermalogica eye make up remover, I have to say it really depends. I tend to use waterproof and heavy eye make up – It did take me a while to remove all traces of it. In fact, I really did have to almost tug at my eye lids to completely remove my mascara and eye liner. I also had to use quite a lot of product to finally remove everything. Having said that, I did try it with ‘normal’ non waterproof make up and it did work a lot better. It got rid of most of my eye shadow, eye liner (pencil) and mascara within the first swipe.
So bottomline is, if you tend to wear heavy eye make up with lots of waterproof/smudge proof gel eye liners, mascaras and the like, you might not favour this as much. If you don’t wear very heavy eye make up, this one will be perfect and you will love how gentle and soothing it is as well.
Overall, this one was a bit of a miss for me but only because of the heavy eye make up that I usually wear. On days that I give the heavy stuff a miss, I do reach for this make up remover. I really enjoy its soothing, non greasy gel formula.
Have you tried this Dermalogica Eye Make Up Remover? How did you like it?
